Hoary Marmot
August 2002: This Hoary Marmot (Marmota caligata) lives at Wenkchemna Pass, where it apparently gets enough human company to have lost its shyness. Wenkchemna Pass is normal marmot habitat, a high, rocky boulder field. The spot where this photo was taken is on the crest of the pass, which places it on the continental divide, the boundary between Banff National Park and Yoho National Park, and the border between Alberta and British Columbia.
