Trails in the North Kananaskis Area

Yamnuska and the Bow Valley

Yamnuska and the Bow Valley
June 2003: Despite its inclusion in the Kananaskis Country Trail Guide (KCTG), the Heart Mountain Horseshoe is steep and undefined enough to usually be classified as a scramble (non-technical climb), rather than a hike. From partway up good views down the Bow Valley toward Calgary are available. Mount Yamnuska, 2240 m, the cliff across the valley on the left side of the photo, is a well-known rock-climbing spot.
