June 1998: The Amethyst Lakes are a single body of water with a narrow section near the middle. The Ramparts rising above them are named for their resemblance to medieval fortifications. The major peaks in this photo, from left to right, are Dungeon Peak, 3120 m, Redoubt Peak, 3077 m, and Drawbridge Peak, 2727 m.
