Abbot Pass and the Death Trap

Abbot Pass and the Death Trap
August 2004: The pass between Mount Lefroy on the left and Mount Victoria on the right is named Abbot Pass, in honour of the first mountaineering death in the Canadian Rockies. The couloir leading up to the pass from the Lake Louise side is known as the Death Trap because of the frequent rock and ice fall. The Abbot Hut, at the top of the pass, is operated by the Alpine Club of Canada and is more safely reached from the other, Lake O'Hara, side.
